Instagram has real-time coverage of almost everything happening in the world. Now its unlocking that content with a revamped explore tab featuring Trending Tags, Trending Places, curated content, plus a new Places Search in its latest 7.0 update available now.
Key things to know about this update:
“This is our North Star—what we’ve been shooting for all along,” according to cofounder and CEO Kevin Systrom. “It’s a real-time visual pulse for what is happening in the world.”
Currently, Twitter is the real-time network, where the world goes to get the pulse of what’s going on. With this update, Instagram is threatening that position, and considering Instagram’s growing audience, they may have the advantage of attention.
Instagram also puts itself much more in the same realm of Snapchat’s Stories product.
Want to see what’s happening at Coachella? Check out the designated category page. Want to explore an area you’re thinking about visiting or exploring? Search it, and see photos collected from countless people who have documented their own journeys.
Instagram is currently the fastest growing social media network with a base of 300 million monthly as of December 2014.
